The NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) is an Arm’s Length Body of the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and oversees £36 billion of NHS expenditure annually delivering a range of national services. We process prescriptions and dental forms, make payments to pharmacists and dentists and help patients to access help with health costs, issuing a range of exemption certificates and promoting eligibility checking. Our ‘Hire to Retire’ portfolio now includes NHS Jobs and ESR, enabling us to support NHS employees throughout their career. We administer the NHS Pension scheme, NHS Bursaries, Learning Support Fund, Social Work Bursaries and Education Support Grants on behalf of the DHSC.
Our purpose is to be a catalyst for better health. We use data analysis and digitisation to improve patient outcomes and we’re helping to deliver the NHS Long Term Plan with initiatives supporting the NHS workforce, provider assurance, prevention, overseas healthcare and reducing fraud and error.
Student Services is a department within the NHSBSA. Our aim is to ensure our customers are paid correctly and on time, every time. During the 2018/19 financial year we administered funding totalling approximately £396,000,000 to over 97,000 students and 80 Higher Education Institutions across our four work streams; NHS Bursaries, Learning Support Fund, Social Work Bursaries and Education Support Grants.
