Technical Apprentice (Electronic)

£13,750 + benefits

Dstl Porton Down, Salisbury, Wiltshire

Got a good grasp of electronic engineering and technology? This flexible Apprenticeship can open the door to a range of Dstl careers. Learning vital skills within an internationally recognised team, you’ll gain qualifications as you help to protect the UK.

With this structured training programme you’ll divide your time between the classroom and an engineering or electronic workshop. Through academic learning and practical, hands-on work, you’ll build expertise in electronics, fault finding, equipment testing and mechanical manufacturing.

There are two different entry levels depending on your level of qualification:

Entry level 1: If you have at least give GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 or above including Maths, English and a Science, you can join us for a four-year apprenticeship, with the first two years spent with Wiltshire College.

Entry level 2: If you have a BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering plus at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 4 or above including Maths, English and one Science, you can apply for this two-year apprenticeship, which includes day release study at Wiltshire College. 

Whichever apprenticeship you choose, you’ll be learning essential technical skills that  will develop your career at Dstl. Technical apprentices have gone onto a wide range of roles, driven by their love of problem solving and desire to understand exactly how things work.  

 

Associate Project Manager Apprentice

£16,031 + benefits

Dstl Porton Down, Salisbury, Wiltshire and Dstl Portsdown West, Fareham, Hampshire

There’s no end to the different projects we tackle at Dstl and as an Apprentice Project Manager, you’ll become an expert on delivering them. With the skills you learn, you’ll help us protect the UK, as you gain a nationally recognised qualification plus a salary too.

This is a chance to learn on the job with an internationally respected team. Working with highly skilled Project Managers, you’ll deliver science and technology projects for a wide range of Defence purposes. You’ll discover how to maintain crucial documentation, deal with multiple contacts, follow procedures, plan and co-ordinate activities, and control finances. And what’s more, there’s the opportunity to get to grips with Microsoft Excel and Project.. But first, you’ll need to show us that you have an eye for detail and a passion for science and technology. 

You’ll also need five A*-C Grade GCSEs or equivalent, including English & Maths, as well as three A-Level standard, or equivalent qualifications. If you make the grade, we’ll give you the opportunity to launch a career like no other at Dstl.

 

Administrative Support Apprentice

£13,750 + benefits

Location Dstl Porton Down, Salisbury, Wiltshire

To protect the UK, our teams need administrative support of the highest quality. Through this apprenticeship, you’ll learn the skills that make our specialists’ work possible, developing your abilities, gaining a qualification and earning a salary.

If you like the sound of hands-on work within a fast-paced team, this apprenticeship could be just what you need. Here, you’ll learn how to work with our wide range of functions, building relationships and providing crucial admin support. And, at the same time, you’ll complete an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration that’s recognised nationally. If you really thrive and want to take your expertise to a higher level, you can go on to study for a Level 3 NVQ too.

You’ll need five A*-C Grade GCSEs or equivalent, including English & Maths. If you make the grade, we’ll give you the opportunity to launch a career like no other at Dstl.
